Nestled in the heart of the far-flung beauty of the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, LUMEN is a small-scale, quality designer brand that blends the heritage of iconic Harris Tweed with the photographic innovation of Cyanotype printing.
LUMEN celebrates the marriage of tradition and contemporary design, creating pieces that feel both timeless and cutting-edge.
At the heart of the collection is the iconic Harris Tweed, handwoven in the Outer Hebrides by skilled artisans. The rich textures and vibrant colours of this legendary fabric are elevated with unique Cyanotype prints, a photographic printing technique that infuses each piece with a distinctive, almost ethereal quality. These prints, inspired by the natural beauty of the island, use delicate silhouettes of local flora, and add a unique detail to the classic fabric.

Our Story
Formed by the landscape, printed by the sun
The LUMEN workshop can be found in the heart of the Isle of Lewis in the building of Island Darkroom, a photographic gallery, traditional darkroom and all-round creative space. This is where the story of LUMEN begins.
Inspired by the quality of print that could be found by using the Cyanotype photographic process on fabric, founder and designer Mhairi Law began experimenting further with the possibilities of pairing this technique in combination with the local Harris Tweed. LUMEN has grown to become a small team, creating limited-edition and one-off pieces.
Mhairi works directly with the Harris Tweed mills and weavers to choose tweed options that are particular to LUMEN, often delving into the archives of tweeds that may not have been seen for generations, and bringing them once again to life. Inspired by her love of utilitarian clothing, a collection of garments soon began to form.
The modern Harris Tweed workwear-inspired garments reimagine the classics, blending a timeless look with functionality and durability. Designed for those who value both style and practicality, the LUMEN collection is made from the finest handwoven Harris Tweed, offering an unparalleled robustness, warmth and style that suits both city living and outdoor environments.
